ESSNA is the voice of the specialist sports nutrition sector in Europe. Following a period of sustained growth, we now have nearly 50 members, ranging from big international sport nutrition brands through to smaller specialist companies; ingredients’ suppliers; sport nutrition publications; and national associations.
ESSNA was founded in 2003 with the intention of creating a forum for discussion and vehicle for actions on the concerns of the specialist sports nutrition sector in order to secure appropriate and proportionate European legislation on sports nutrition products.
Today, ESSNA is in close dialogue with a wide variety of stakeholders to do this. We work with officials from the European Commission and the European Food Safety Agency, Member States’ Governments, Parliamentarians from the European Parliament and Member States’ legislatures, and other trade bodies and sporting organisations, so that we are best able to represent the views of the specialist sector in a wide range of discussions.
ESSNA also takes the argument for sports nutrition and the reputable brands involved in the industry to TV and radio, the mainstream press and the specialist media, as well as to anti-doping organisations. We work to disassociate responsible brands from those tarnishing the reputation of the sector and so improve perceptions of the industry. All ESSNA Members sign up to the ESSNA Constitution that insists that they abide by all relevant rules and regulations.
