Action on Salt is a group of specialists concerned with dietary salt consumption and its effects on health. Action on Salt is successfully working to reach a consensus with the food industry and Government over the harmful effects of a high salt diet and bring about a reduction in the amount of salt in processed, catered and restaurant food, as well as salt added to cooking and at the table. To date we have been successful with many supermarkets and food manufacturers choosing to adopt a policy of gradually reducing the salt content of their products. As a result, salt intakes have reduced by 15% since 2001, with corresponding reductions in blood pressure. We hope to continue working with industry and government to achieve the UK salt target of 6g/day.

Action on Salt offers non-financial support to the Food Matters Live event and encourages continued collaboration between industry, academia, health professionals and other non-government bodies so as to improve public health.
