Young Activist and Food Ambassador, Blackburn with Darwen Food Alliance

Tia Clarke

I became involved in the Blackburn with Darwen Food Alliance which is part of the Food Power programme in October 2017. Since then I have shared my own experience of food poverty both locally & nationally, and was one of a small group of young people who set up the #DarwengetsHangry Campaign. In 2018 I became involved in the Children’s Future Food Inquiry, later becoming an ambassador. This has involved speaking to MP’s in Westminster, appearing on Channel 4 News, as well as being featured in the Sunday Times Magazine. More recently I worked with local film director Brody Salmon on co-producing ‘Edgelands’ a short film on the themes of food poverty, homelessness & youth welfare, In 2019 I spoke to local decision makers as part of a podcast we are producing on Children’s Right to Food & more recently I produced an audio diary about my experience of lockdown for the Food Foundation.
