Innovation Manager – Gut Health, DSM
Wilbert Sybesma, PhD MBA, has been active for 20 years in the area of food biotechnology. Most of his career Wilbert has been working in the area of probiotics and fermentation technology, including different functions in probiotic research, probiotic product development and operations.
After having worked for several years for Nestlé, Wilbert joined DSM in 2018 as Innovation Manager for “Gut Health”, working on evidence based and commercially viable solutions for Food & Beverages, Dietary Supplements, Early Life Nutrition, Pharma and Medical Nutrition.
Besides his activities for DSM, Wilbert is co-founder of Yoba for Life, a public benevolent institution that empowers resource poor communities in East Africa to make and sell their own probiotic yoghurts. Wilbert is also active as senior scientist at the University of Zürich where he initiated a clinical study in bacteriophage therapy for treatment of urinary tract infections. Wilbert combines all these activities with teaching Food Biotechnology at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédéral de Lausanne.
