Professor of Pharmaceutics, University College London
Professor Gaisford is Head of Pharmaceutics at University College London and runs a research group that uses isothermal microcalorimetry to study the growth and interactions of probiotic and pathogenic bacteria. His group has shown that some probiotic species show anti-pathogenic activity against a number of common gut infections and more recently he has shown how successful delivery of live probiotics rebalances in the human gut microbiome. He also uses isothermal calorimetry to characterise the viability of commercial probiotic formulations. He has published 135 papers, 4 books and 8 book chapters and his work is frequently featured in the national press. He also featured on the Channel 4 series ‘Food Unwrapped’ talking about fermented foodstuffs.
