Senior Lecturer in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition, Department of Sport Science, Nottingham Trent University

Dr Neil Williams

Neil’s current research focuses on investigating the role of dietary interventions and the gut microbiota in respiratory health (e.g. asthma); athlete health and exercise performance. In relation to respiratory health current research projects are investigating whether dietary interventions to target the gut microbiota could be therapeutic in both exercise induced asthma and severe asthma. The research primarily focuses on the use of prebiotic interventions to reduce airway inflammation and asthma severity. Neil is also interested in the role of the gut microbiota in exercise performance and athlete health and whether favourable manipulation through diet using prebiotics can have a positive effect for the athlete and recreational exerciser.
