Scientific & Regulatory Affairs Leader, Sensus (Royal Cosun)
Elaine Vaughan BSC hons PhD leads scientific and regulatory affairs since 2014 for Sensus B.V. (Royal Cosun) headquartered in the Netherlands. Sensus is a global supplier that offers inspiration for tomorrows’ health by producing the innovative food ingredients Frutafit® and Frutalose® fibres from chicory roots. Elaine conducts scientific research on the beneficial effects of these prebiotic fibres on human health.
Elaine studied microbiology and nutrition at University College Cork, Ireland. A Marie-Curie award for research brought her to NIZO Food Research, the Netherlands. She was assistant professor in Molecular Microbial Ecology at Wageningen University and senior scientist at Top Institute Food & Nutrition managing a group in gut microbiomics. Besides academic experience, she has substantial industry experience from Nestlé Research Center, Switzerland and later in Unilever R&D on pro- and prebiotics and polyphenols research. Elaine publishes extensively in peer-reviewed journals, led EC projects, and is currently on the scientific advisory committee of ILSI Europe.
