Strength2Food Project Manager & Research Associate, Newcastle University Business School
Dr Barbara Tocco is a Research Associate at the Newcastle University Business School and Project Manager for Strength2Food on ‘Strengthening European Food Chain Sustainability by Quality and Procurement Policy’, funded under the EU’s Horizon 2020 framework programme. Trained as an Economist, Barbara has worked on issues related to food sustainability, agri-food supply chains, rural development and policy analysis. She has contributed to various EU funded research projects in this field.
Her current research, combining qualitative and quantitative methods, revolves around two main themes: 1) consumer behaviour regarding food quality labels and sustainable practices; 2) short food supply chains and ‘alternative’ food business models, with assessment of their economic, social and environmental impacts. Ongoing action research with SME Food Nation specifically involves pilot action initiatives to develop new quality food markets for locally landed seafood in North-East England.
