David Hodgson MBA

David Hodgson has a career based in prestige hotel management, including Hyatt International, The Ritz London and Intercontinental Hotel Group.

A foundation in hospitality introduced David to the world of fine wines, spearheading the Australian assault on the UK wine market while working as Director of Brands – UK/Europe for Rosemount Estate. David created the UK “Young Restaurant Manager of the Year” program to drive UK on-trade sector, directed the St Moritz and Rheingau gourmet festival sponsorship, and managed IMW (Institute of Masters of Wine) sponsorship. He then representing a number of other boutique winemakers under his own agency Fluid Drinks Business Solutions, developing brands in pan European markets.

Having a keen interest in wine stylistic, branding and commercial areas, David has also been a panel Judge with the International Wine & Spirit Competition for 20 years.

David is a partner in the innovative western Australian brand PlanB! Free Range Wines.

Also having a keen interest in health & wellness, David embarked on the establishment of Elementary-Life, dynamic plant based nutrition supplements. As Founder and CEO, he was solely responsible for solely responsible for business strategy, product formulation, branding and design, production, management, sales, B2B and B2C marketing and distribution. Launched at Food Matters Live in November 2016, Elementary-Life listed with 48 stores, including: Harrods, The Health Store, Revital Group, As Nature Intended, John Bell Croyden. Developed Ecommerce site and subscription model. Elementary Vital shortlisted in the Free From Awards 2018.

It is no coincidence that David’s background in the wine business, coupled with entrepreneurial experience in the health and nutrition industry, has yielded a keen interest in exploiting the junction where they meet. Observing the encouraging developments in the low and no alcohol beverage category, David established the Vinolo project to critically assess the quality and variety of products being developed, and ultimately to “premiumise” the alcohol free wine sector. Wine is the most challenging product to work with in the alcohol free sector, due to its complexity and difficulty to get palatability profile correct. A combination of state of the art technology, unparalleled viticultural and oenological experience, and marketing innovation has resulted in Vinolo developing 3 alcohol free wine styles which show promise for what is to come.
