Food Matters Live and the European Specialist Sports Nutrition Alliance (ESSNA) hosted an industry briefing on September 16th to discuss the rapid changes in the sports nutrition industry.
Representatives from GSK, Glanbia, Motion Nutrition, LGC Group, Nutristrength, FrieslandCampina and MaxiNutrition were among the many delegates who attended the event to learn about the new laws, new consumers and new products that are driving the growth of this innovative sector.

Professor Adam Carey, Chairman, The European Specialist Sports Nutrition Alliance
Adam is a doctor, nutritionist and leading commentator on all areas of sports nutrition and human performance. He graduated from Oxford University Medical School in 1988, and went on to become an accredited specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with sub-specialist interests in endocrinology and nutrition. Adam left the NHS in 1998 to actively develop the use of nutritional and lifestyle intervention that improve human performance, reduce the risk of disease and improve an individual resilience. He was Head of Nutrition for the England Rugby Football Union from 1999 to 2006, and performed a similar role for the England Cricket squad in 2005 for their success reclaiming the Ashes. He recently headed Nutrition and Lifestyle management for the Welsh Rugby Union in their preparation for the 2011 World Cup. He is founder and CEO of Corperformance, a company that delivers behavioural change programmes to blue chip organisations.

Working across all sectors including Grocery, Health Food and Pharmaceutical, Rachel guides brand owners through the process of getting their products listed and selling successfully within the highly competitive UK market. With particular knowledge and success within the Holland & Barrett, building European brands and taking them to multimillion £ brands.

Roel has been in the sports nutrition and B2B industry for nearly 20 years. Together with a dedicated team and by a strong sense for upcoming trends and a continuous urge for innovation he has played an important role in the growth of the company VSI over the years. The acquisition by Hearthside in 2015 was one of the examples showing the merge of mainstream and sports nutrition products.
