Melanie Felgate, Senior Analyst at GlobalData

Melanie has over ten years’ experience in researching and analysing consumer insight related to the food and beverage industry, and has authored articles for several academic and industry publications, including the British Food Journal. Melanie completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Reading, earning a first class BSc degree in Food Marketing & Business Economics. She then went on to complete her PhD in Marketing at Kent Business School in the University of Kent, focusing on the impact of price promotions on shopper behaviour.  At GlobalData Melanie has written and presented on a wide range of consumer topics, with a particular interest in health and nutrition, including sports nutrition and disease management.

Astrid Horstman, Senior Research Specialist, FrieslandCampina Innovation Centre

Astrid Horstman received her PhD from the VU University, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, USA and, subsequently worked in the group of prof. Luc van Loon at Maastricht University, the Netherlands. Astrid worked as a team leader clinical studies for oncology and frailty at Danone/Nutricia Research and since this year she works as a senior research specialist at FrieslandCampina, Wageningen the Netherlands. Her main research interests include skeletal muscle (protein) metabolism, cancer cachexia, sports nutrition, and the use of physical activity and/or dietary (lifestyle) interventions to modulate muscle metabolism in health, aging and disease.

Ben Lewis, Co-founder & Director, Pulsin

Ben founded Pulsin in 2007 with two friends after graduating in Nutritional Therapy from ION, and went on to design and develop their ranges of natural nutritional snacks, including protein bars, powders, raw chocolate brownies and fruity oat bars. He is also long time explorer of nutrition, cookery, yoga, healing, global trends and much more.

Mike Bagshaw, Managing Director and Founder at International Taste Solutions

Mike Bagshaw holds an honours degree in Biotechnology and a Diploma in Management Studies from the University of Reading, and has been working in the food industry for 18 years.

Mike founded International Taste Solutions (ITS) in 2009, with the vision to be the most innovative, passionate, and agile creator of natural taste and texture solutions in the food industry.

After years of rapid growth, in 2016 ITS moved to its new headquarters in Newbury (Berkshire), which is home to an Innovation Centre, Flavour laboratory and an Applications Suite which allows their team of experts to work closely with customers on development projects – whether it’s improving recipes or developing a new product.

Innovation passion and agility have always been in the heart of ITS as its core values, since Mike has the strong belief that customers need agility and speed in the service, innovative products and a good dose of passion and enthusiasm.

Mike is a keen sports enthusiast, a former boxer, rugby and american football player who still enjoys training everyday.

Claudia has led regulatory and compliance for EMEA at Glanbia Performance Nutrition since joining the company in 2013. She previously held roles at Herbalife and Maxinutrition (GSK), giving her extensive experience with sports foods and supplements. She is also a fitness enthusiast, active traveller and dog lover.
