Company Shop tackles food waste issue at ‘Alternative Edibles’

Company Shop, the UK’s largest redistributor of surplus food, will be tackling the issue of waste and surplus food within the food supply at ‘Alternative Edibles’ during Food Matters Live. On Wednesday 19 November, visitors will be invited to try a dish prepared from food considered to be ‘surplus’ and demonstrate how food waste can be made into delicious, wholesome food. The session will seek to challenge attendees’ ideas on food waste, and how such initiatives could help the growing concern of world food shortages. It is estimated that the hospitality industry contributes 920,000 tonnes of food waste and costs the average outlet £10,000 per year.

Food Matters Live endorses Innovation at the FreeFrom Awards 2015

The Freefrom Awards 2015 opens for entries today and Food Matters Live will once again sponsor the Innovation Award - awarded this year to Venice Bakery for their large seasoned gluten-fee vegan pizza base. The Awards celebrate the food industry’s ability to create novel foods that are free of wheat, gluten, dairy, eggs, nuts, soya or sulphites. The science behind a2 Milk revealed at Food Matters Live

Milk that contains the A2 protein but no A1 protein is easier on the digestive system than more common milk that contains the A1 protein, according to a major new study led by Professor Sebely Pal, Curtin University in Perth, Australia - who shared the findings in the UK last week. As 1 in 5 people in the UK consider themselves to be dairy intolerant, this new independently peer reviewed research could prove to be a revelation, and help them return to dairy.

The Fantastic Future of Food: celebrating the past, looking to the future

Food Matters Live joined The Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) today to celebrate its 50th Jubilee. Since 13 May 1964, when the IFST adopted its constitution and elected its first Council, it has grown to become the leading independent qualifying body for food professionals in Europe and the only professional body in the UK concerned with all aspects of food science and technology.
