An estimated 8.4 million people in the UK struggle with food poverty whilst 3.6 million tonnes of food is wasted by the food industry every year.

Neighbourly’s surplus redistribution programme helps address these issues by digitally connecting businesses including Aldi, Lidl, M&S and Innocent with thousands of local good causes and food banks. These causes work with their local communities to support those who are struggling to get quality food on the table for themselves and their families.

Together the Neighbourly food surplus programme has enabled businesses to donate over 57M meals to over 5,000 good causes - saving a combined total of over 90k tonnes of Co2.

Neighbourly not only links causes to regular food surplus but also connects businesses to a network of over 17,000 good causes across the country. This allows businesses to invest in the communities they operate in through multiple means, including product surplus, grants and employee volunteering.

Through Neighbourly businesses have donated £13.8M and 72,800 hours of employee volunteering. Without this ongoing support, many causes would not have the resources to continue collecting and redistributing food to those in need, making it a vital part of our programme.
